Dachshund Welcome Sign

I must confess I am a Dachshund lover. We rescued our first one over 8 years ago and since, she has passed, but we still have three cuties. They go everywhere with us.

Caleigh is in the middle and the mother of Louie on the left. Roddy is on the right. It seemed only right to make a welcome sign with them in mind.

This was an easy project using pallet boards. Let's get started.

Hubby had already cut some boards for me so I just grab three of them. These were already all the same length.

Eclectic Red Barn: Cut Pallet Boards

I used three furring strips to hold the pallet boards together. I just used my staple gun to secure them on the back. You could always use large paint stirrers as well.

For the Dachshund picture, I found one online that I like and printed it out. The size you use will depend on what size are your pallet boards and if you want words at the top.

Then I found some flashing and placed the paper image on it.
Eclectic Red Barn: Flashing

I taped it down and then cut out my image. Here is the flashing cutout completed.

I had some brass nails that I got years ago. The jar was filled at one time but I keep using them up.

I added them to the flashing to secure it to the pallet boards.

I added one that will be his eye but other than that, just added them around.

Then I decided to add some rope as a hanger. I drilled holes near the top added the rope.

I tied knots on the front and burned the ends of the rope a little to secure it.

Then I decided to add "Welcome" at the top. I was going to freehand it but then decided to use some letters I had. All was going well except for the two middle letters (c & o). I had a line but the letters did not have the same amount of spacing on them and they ended up above the line. Oh well, too late now.

My sign is as quirky as my Dachshunds. You could add your favorite dog, cat or rabbit. Now everyone knows there are Dachshunds at our house!
