Inexpensive Halloween Books

Inexpensive Halloween Books!

I love to decorate for Halloween but hate the high costs of many of the cute items, so I look for things to make cheaply. I recently shared my Decorative Stacked Pumpkins that I made from inexpensive plastic ones.

Today I want to share my Witch's Books. Of course a witch needs to have a book full of her spells, right?

Not only was this an easy project, it was free!

Here is the tutorial:
1. Gather your books. I had some old books that I use the pages for projects. If you don't have any books, you can pick them up rather cheaply at garage sales, thrift stores or flea markets.

2. Next I painted them black. I just used what I had on hand.

I had to put a second coat on one of the books. I tried to sand them a little, but it didn't do much.

3. Now it is time to write the words on the books. I just wrote the words freehand.

I used this dimensional fabric paint that I had on hand. You can get it at craft stores. You could use regular paint, but I wanted some depth to the letters. I let it dry over night to make sure it was dry.

4. On one of the books, I took a fine paint brush and outlined the letters in black.

5. Add in some additional decor. Last year I made about 10-12 potion bottles. They were so nice but I did not have time to post about them. I put them away and for the life of me I have no idea where I put them.

I have looked everywhere, so I made up a couple new ones. That is so frustrating. Oh well, maybe next year.

Thank you for the sweet comment on my Halloween books. Love sharing at Sunday's Best.
      Have a great weekend.

  4. These are brilliant! We love to decorate for Halloween too (I'm currently trying to finish a Halloween Sampler in time!!) We also love books and have tons of them around the house, so we may have to give this a try! #sharethejoylinky

    1. Amanda,
I hope you share your Halloween sampler, I would love to see it. I try to make decorations from things I already have.
I had lots of books to choose from too.
Hope you like your Halloween books if you make them.

I would love to hear from you. Your comments are special to me.
