My Bouillon Fringe Foot Stool

PJH Desisgns
It is my husband's annual golf outing with his brother, cousin and dad. Each year they come to Florida to golf. This year they decided to come to our house in Eustis. They golf and I cook. Well, it is not that bad since I like to cook and I get to garage sale while they are out. I came across this little stool at a garage sale.  She was asking $5 but I got it for $2.50.

It was in good shape and the fabric was nice, but the color was all wrong for me.

When I turned it over to remove the fabric, the tag was on it and the price was $45. As if they was not bad enough, the original price was $89. Can't image paying either one of those prices!

At first I wasn't sure about the fringe, but then it grew on me. The legs are not fancy so the bouillon fringe hides them. The construction of the stool was quite good and the legs unscrewed from the bottom.

I removed the fringe, the bottom fabric, and the top fabric. I was left with the wooden base and the top foam. Off to JoAnn fabrics. I took the fringe with me and I was glad I did. It seemed like when I found a fabric I liked, the fringe didn't look good with it. There were two designer fabrics that I liked but I didn't want to get into that much money even with a coupon. I thought about changing the fringe but that would be expensive too. I could make a skirt out of fabric. Finally, I found this fabric. I love paisley and at $3 for half a yard, the right price and I only used half of it.

I used the original fabric as a pattern except that I cut out the corners and stitched them to make the corners. I wanted the corners to be tight and I didn't want to fold it over.
I wanted to get a picture of the top of the stool but Claire had other ideas.

Eclectic Red Barn: Claire on top of the foot stool

Is this my stool? As you can see, Claire is a big tabby and the stool is small. She likes to go were I go and thought this stool was kind of cool. After she got off the stool, here is the top.

I am not sure what I am going to do with the stool yet, probably sell it. For now it is in the bedroom.

I can't say this was a trash to treasure, but it was a nice makeover. Here are the before and after photos.  The stool looks the same, just a different color.

  1. that turned out so cute - I agree - the purple was not the right color - kitty agrees too. Delightful. The price astonishes me - glad you got it for such a great price.

    1. Hi JoAnn,
Yes, I was amazed at the price. Does any one really pay that. They had a big expensive home so I don't know.
Thanks for taking the time to leave a message.
      Have a great day,

  2. It's so much prettier in the fabric you chose! My cats have to get in every picture I take, too, unless I actually want to take a picture of them. Then, they run and hide.

    1. Hi Maureen,
Thanks for liking my new fabric. I agree with you about the cat. She has to be right there all the time, but if I want a picture, she is gone. They are so silly.

  6. Yes, the stool definitely looks better, while purple is my favorite color some places it just does not belong. Stopping by from the Tuesdays With a Twist link up.

    1. Hi Joyce,
I love purple too, but it is not in my home decor. I was happy with the paisley.

  7. That is beautiful. I like paisleys too but if you keep it, maybe you should find fabric in Claire colors :) Less hair to show that way.

    1. Hi Abrianna,
I just wanted to say I love your name. Maybe we should come up with cat fabric so their hairs would show. Now there is an idea! :)
