Updated Bench

Updated Amish Bench

I bought this bench so many years ago, that I can't even remember. I think it was in Ohio at an Amish place.  It is not a large bench, but I wanted to update it to a more farmhouse bench.

The bench is solid wood, but it had sides on it and cutouts.

However, I didn't want the "heart" ends on it any longer.

So I pried the ends off. That was the good part. The ends were inset so when I removed them, I now had a gap where the top wood met the bottom wood. (Sorry but I guess I didn't take that picture.)

So, of course I asked hubby if he could cut that bottom part off to line up with the top. As usual, he just looks at me and then he figures out how to do it. When he was finished, I had a lovely little bench.
Now to paint it. At first I thought I would paint it white and then antique it, but after I had painted it, I decided that it should just be white - no antiquing or distressing.

I was so excited to remove those heart sides from the bench. I can use it in so many different places now.  What do you think?

I agree, the hearts needed to go. I was so glad I was able to take them off.
