The Starburst( or Shooting Star) is Exploding

The Starburst or Shooting Star (botancial name: Clerodendrum quadriloculare) is a wonderful flower on a fast growing, large scale shrub or small tree. Not sure if I would call it a shrub since ours is more like 15 feet tall. We received it from a neighbor about 3 three years ago. It was only 3 feet tall. Last year was the first time it bloomed and it was gorgeous and this year it is even more beautiful.

The starburst begins to bloom around the end of December or first of January. It starts with tiny buds that shoot out.

From these small buds white stems begin to emerge.

These white buds will continue to grow. Here is a group of them on the tree.

These stems continue growing as the stem keeps its purplish color and the tips are white.

They are beginning to "burst" into bloom.

Each of the stems will have a star like flower at the end - hince its name "Starburst"

Here is a cluster of these flowers.

The tree is cover in these beautiful burst of white flowers.

These trees are so beautiful in full bloom.

  6. Jill,
"Fireworks in bloom" is a great way to say it. When I am sitting on my deck looking out at my barn, I get to enjoy this beautiful tree. Today it is at its peak, blooms all over the tree. What a site!
