How NOT to Paint Decals

So have you ever found a neat piece of furniture but it has a decal that can't be removed or a metal container that has a decal. You want to paint them, but how NOT to paint the decals. Never fear, it is actually easier than you think. I found this metal watering can at a garage sale for a $1. Nothing very exciting, but knew I could paint it. However, it had this "metal decal" and I didn't want to paint that.

This watering can had some rust but since I was going to paint it, it didn't matter.

My Framed "B" with Handmade Decorative Trim

As you might know if you have followed my blog,  I have been working on turning my red barn into my workshop. You can read more about the red barn project here. The problem is that there is way too much stuff in the barn that needs to be fixed, painted, distressed, re-purposed or something else. So as I plug away at the items, I recently found a vintage frame that I purchased when my sister and I went on the Longest Yard Sale a few years ago. It was awesome!

Here is my finished "B" frame,  but it did not look like this when I purchased it.

Before and After Wednesday Feature!

On Wednesday's at The Dedicated House, Kathryn features someones Before and After project. I am so excited to be this week's Before and After feature.  What a great honor to have been chosen.

My little yard stick stool was definitely a before and after piece.

New Life for A Broken Rocking Chair

I was featured!
When I found this rocking chair last year at my in-laws flea market, it was in such bad shape that they were just going to throw it out. Thinking someone might want it, they priced it at $2. Needless to say, or great for me, it didn't sell.

My Bouillon Fringe Foot Stool

PJH Desisgns
It is my husband's annual golf outing with his brother, cousin and dad. Each year they come to Florida to golf. This year they decided to come to our house in Eustis. They golf and I cook. Well, it is not that bad since I like to cook and I get to garage sale while they are out. I came across this little stool at a garage sale.  She was asking $5 but I got it for $2.50.

Have you tried Bar Keepers Friend?

Have you ever seen a piece of silver or brass and thought, I like it but it is in bad shape. Well, all of the pieces that you see below were those kind of pieces(one is missing from this picture) - some more than others. I got all of them for $2 so I said, what the heck!

I brought the pieces home and grabbed the Bar Keepers Friend.

From Crappy to Adorable

What a cute little stool this turned out to be. However, when I first saw this stool, I didn't give it much thought. My in-laws neighborhood was having a flea market at their club house. I picked up a couple of things and looked at this stool and said, "I don't know".

Near the end of the sale, everything was half price. I kept walking pass this stool and finally said, why not. It was 50 cents. I also got a rocker for $1.00, you will see that in a later post.

Old window makes a great display!

  Life on Lakeshore Drive
My husband said, "this window is falling apart". He was kind of right. The one side was not so bad, but it was the other side that caught my eye. When I picked it up however, the paint and part of the window was coming off in my hands. For $1.00 I had to have it. I love old windows.

I didn't want to clean it up because I thought it might fall apart. Instead, I just use it as is.

Crocheted Purse as a Vase

Well as you can see from the image that I did not turn a crocheted purse into a real vase, but instead used it as a framed vase.

Vintage Frame with Crocheted Purse as a Vase

However, I did combine a vintage frame and a vintage crocheted purse into a vase so to speak. I found this frame at a yard sale just as is. They had painted it brown. I thought about repainting it but then decided to keep it for a while.

From Dumpster to Pretty Lady

Two weeks ago, I posted about items I acquired from trash pick up on my street, my baskets. (Still have more items to refinish). Well this week it is an item I found in a dumpster. I would have liked to found more, but I was yelled at to NOT pick anything from the dumpster. Oh, well at least I got this frame.

It didn't look like this when I rescued it however, but I really liked it and had to have it.

Baskets from the Junk Pile

We have bulk pickup here once a month, where you can put out almost anything. Sometimes you can find some good things. Our neighbor is moving and after having a garage sale, put many items out for bulk pickup. I hate to have items going to landfills when they could be re-purposed.  I find it difficult to pass up good items. I found three planters, a picture frame, she gave me a hutch (needs a lot of work - will see it later), a bed frame(at another house), and a hugh clock face at another house. Great finds - what a week!

First to be finished were the three planters. I have pictures of the two wicker types, but I don't know what happened to the third original picture.

Dollar Chair Make Over

Refinished chair with black leather seat
Sometimes you find a piece of furniture that's a great price but you don't really need it. Then sometimes you find a piece of furniture that's a great price and you do NEED it. That's what happened to me.

Our other house north of Orlando, came with a dining room set. Nothing fancy but since I did 't want to buy a new one, we would make it work for now. Only problem was that it only had four chairs.

I wanted to find two chairs that would work with the  set. They are rather simple, dark wood with black leather covered seats. Shouldn't be too hard to find something that works right?
