4th of July Garland

I am a little late in getting my 4th of July decorations done, actually getting them started is more like it!  We are working on our deck and it is taking longer than we thought. Hopefully we will be done in time for the 4th. I needed to make something that would not take too much time so I decided to make this 4th of July garland.

This was so easy to make and I created it in two evenings as I was sitting on the couch with the dogs on my lap. Here are the directions to make this garland.

You will need the following supplies:
     1. Various fabrics
     2. Jute or some other heavy string
     3. Scissors

I went through my fabric and found some blue fabric, red and white fabric, and red and white felt. (The felt is not shown in the picture) There are so many great 4th of July fabrics out there, but I wanted to make it now and didn't feel like going to the store.

I cut the pieces in 5 inch lengths  and  1/2 inch wide.  You can change the width for a different look. On another one I made them 1 1/2 inches wide and it gives a "fluffier" look.  More about this one in a later post.

Cut your stripes.  I cut some and then when I had used them up, cut some more. Starting with one stripe, tie it onto the twine.

Keep tying your stripes until you get the desired length.

I decided to drape it over my vintage window that has rose stained glass in it.

I had to go to JoAnn fabrics for some fabric for some pillows and found this blue denim ribbon with stars and thought it might go with my garland. I added two bows on either side. I liked it both ways, but the bows won out.

Now I have officially started on my 4th of July decorating!
As you can see, it was about 82 degrees in the shade today.
